District 6 Projects - Montgomery County

Tyson Avenue over Susquehanna Road Bridge Repairs

Project Overview

County: Montgomery County
Municipality: Abington Township
State Route: Route 2036
Local Name: Tyson Avenue
Project Type: Bridge Repairs
MPMS Number: 113813
Last Updated: October 2025

The proposed scope of work for the Tyson Avenue bridge over Susquehanna Road includes a Latex Modified Concrete (LMC) overlay on the deck, repair and repaving of the approaches, and resealing of the joints. Additional work includes painting of the superstructure and bearings, and spall repairs to the substructure units, the barrier, and the sidewalks. An epoxy resin will also be applied to the substructure units that are in the splash zone. Roadway work will include milling and overlay. There will not be any modifications to the existing guiderail or the guiderail connections to the bridge barrier.

Due to the nature of the project, the bridge will need to be closed and detoured. The anticipated detour is 1.5 miles, and the route utilizes SR 2034. A separate detour for pedestrians and bicyclists is anticipated. The anticipated pedestrian and bicyclist detour is 0.2 miles and will use Easton Road and Susquehanna Road. There is a driveway very close to the bridge; access to the driveway will be maintained during construction. No temporary construction easements will be required.
