This project is located in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, and involves improvements to alleviate congestion and traffic delays, improve safety, and enhance overall regional mobility.  It includes eliminating the existing poorly skewed signalized intersection of Germantown Pike (County) and Ridge Pike (SR 4031) near the Perkiomen Creek Bridge and relocating it (with a new traffic signal) approximately 1,300 feet east on Ridge Pike. To accommodate the shifted intersection, construction of a new Germantown Pike Connector Road (on new alignment) from the existing Germantown Pike (at a proposed roundabout) extending across Ridge Pike to Pechins Mill Road (township) is proposed. The existing stop sign-controlled River Road (SR 4009)/Germantown Pike t-intersection will be removed and River Road will be extended east to the proposed roundabout. Roadway widening on Ridge Pike and Pechins Mill Road is required. New storm drainage pipes/inlets, as well as stormwater management facilities, will be installed throughout the entire project area.

An in-person public meeting was held in preliminary engineering on November 14, 2018, and a virtual public meeting was held at the start of the final design on May 6, 2021.  Public feedback was collected at both meetings.

Utility companies are continuing relocation along Ridge Pike, Germantown Pike and Pechins Mill Road. Utility relocation includes poles, aerial wires underground conduits and gas main replacement. Sanitary Sewer and waterline relocations will continue in late spring and summer 2026. Utility relocations will continue through 2027.

PennDOT’s contractor, Allan Myers (Myers) will continue Ridge Pike Stage 1 construction with roadway reconstruction, drainage, and excavation. Stage 1 roadway widening includes sections of new curb and sidewalk. Construction of new Germantown Pike is ongoing and will continue through 2026. Stage 2 will follow in early 2027. It includes reconstructing the south side of Ridge Pike, Pechins Mill Rd, and part of the new Germantown Pike connector and roundabout. Stage 3 will begin in the spring of 2027. It will continue the construction of the east leg of the new Germantown Pike Connector and roundabout. Stage 4 is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2027 and continue through the spring of 2028. Stage 4 will begin the construction of River Road and the Germantown Pike improvements. Lastly, Stage 5 will begin in early summer 2028. Stage 5 includes the installation of the remaining curbs and sidewalks along Ridge Pike. PennDOT expects to substantially complete the project in early 2029.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction: Ridge Pike will remain reduced to a single lane in each direction between Germantown Pike and Crosskeys Road through Friday, January 29, 2027.

During construction, there will be short-term weekday (9 AM to 3 PM) and occasional nighttime (7 PM to 6 AM) lane closures, which may restrict Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike. There will be three short-term detours of Ridge Pike (10 PM to 6 AM) to install storm drainage. Short-term detours are tentatively scheduled for summer 2026. Advanced notice of the detours will be issued once the dates have been determined. All area businesses remain open and accessible during construction. PennDOT will continue to update citizens on the upcoming traffic impacts.
