This proposed project includes pedestrian and traffic-signal improvements at select intersections along the Washington Lane corridor. The work will occur at the following intersections:

  • Washington Lane and Stenton Avenue
  • Washington Lane and Mansfield Avenue
  • Washington Lane and Rodney Avenue
  • Washington Lane and Lowber Avenue
  • Washington Lane and Woolston Avenue
  • Washington Lane and Thouron Avenue
  • Washington Lane and Limekiln Pike
  • Washington Lane and Ogontz Avenue
  • Washington Lane and Cheltenham Avenue
  • Washington Lane at 76th Street/Blair Road

The proposed work includes:

  • Installing retroreflective backplates on traffic-signal mast arms.
  • Adding pedestrian countdown timers at signalized intersections.
  • Coordinating signals along Washington Lane to improve operations (removing arterials).
  • Converting existing signals from pedestal-mounted to mast arm for increased visibility.
  • Constructing curb bump-outs at select locations.
  • Constructing a flashing beacon and raised crosswalk at 76th Street/Blair Road.

The purpose of this project is to reduce the number and severity of potential crashes along the corridor. Additionally, the project will improve pedestrian safety by shortening crossing distances at intersections.

Project Outreach

PennDOT hosted a live virtual public meeting for this safety improvement project on Thursday, April 18, 2024. The department's design team delivered a project presentation before opening the meeting to questions using the platform's Q&A feature.
