Municipality: Jackson Township
State Route: 4004-017
Local Name: Straws Church Road over Conley’s Creek
Project Type: Bridge Deck Replacement
MPMS Number: 117469

Last Updated: August 2025
The Route 4004 deck replacement project is located along Straws Church Road (Route 4004) over Conley’s Creek in Jackson Township, Dauphin County, approximately 6 miles northeast of Halifax. The purpose of this project is to enhance the functionality of Route 4004. This improvement will ensure continued efficient access for the traveling public and support the long-term reliability of the transportation infrastructure.
The project involves replacing the current bridge deck with a stronger, more modern design that allows the parts of the bridge to work together better. It will also include repaving the areas where the road connects to the bridge and installing new guide rail for improved safety. The existing 42-foot curb-to-curb width will be slightly reduced to a 40-foot 10¼-inch curb to curb width consisting of two 11-foot lanes and two 9-foot 5⅛-inch width shoulders to accommodate the proposed bridge barriers. Please refer to the project’s preliminary plan graphic.
This section of Straws Church Road has an average daily traffic volume of 121 vehicles per day.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic for approximately 3 months during construction. The detour will be approximately 4.5-mile utilizing Route 4001 (Rutter Road), Route 1004 (Millers Church Road) and Route 1003 (Mountain House Road). Please refer to the project’s Detour Plan graphic.
No utilities are expected to be affected within the Limits of Work of the project.
The project is currently in design and construction work is anticipated to begin in July 2027 and last approximately 3 months.
The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and solicit public input, questions, or concerns regarding the project.
