This project involves replacing the State Route 1021/Lincoln Drive Bridge over the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad. Located in Rush Township, Schuylkill County
The goal is to ensure a safe, reliable crossing of Lincoln Drive over the railroad. The existing bridge, a 33’-7” thru-girder built in 1924, is in poor condition due to deterioration of its steel members, which limits it to a weight restriction of 24 tons/33 tons. The current barriers are substandard tube railings with only 1-foot shoulders. The new bridge will be structurally sound, feature standard barriers, wider shoulders, and increased vertical clearance for the railroad. The roadway, with an average daily traffic of 2694 vehicles (including 4% trucks), will maintain a similar horizontal alignment, while the vertical profile will be raised about 4 feet to accommodate the railroad's clearance requirements. The construction will use a relatively short detour.
