This project involves the rehabilitation of the Washington Lane (Route 73) bridge in Cheltenham Township to address bridge preservation needs. This bridge, known as the Washington Lane Viaduct, is a ten-span structure built in 1958 and accommodates two lanes of Route 73 in each direction. The bridge carries 15,000 vehicles per day. The viaduct spans over a local road (Glenside Road), SEPTA Regional Rail, Tacony Creek, and the remaining spans cross a mix of open and wooded unoccupied land making up the floodplain of the creek. The bridge is a multi-beam structure comprised of non-composite rolled beams with cover-plates in 5 discreet superstructure units. In sequence from South to North are three 1-span units, one 4-span continuous unit and three 1-span units. The bridge is not currently posted for load restriction.
