Project Overview
County: Chester
Municipality: Tredyffrin Township
State Route: 1005
Local Name: North Valley Road
Project Type: Bridge Relocation and Roundabout Construction
Last Updated: July 2025
This project aims to replace the current bridge carrying North Valley Road over the Amtrak/SEPTA railroad tracks with a new bridge and extend the roadway from the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and Darby Road in Tredyffrin and Willistown townships, Chester County. The plan also includes upgrades at the offset intersection of East Central Avenue and West Central Avenue with North Valley Road, enhancements to the existing train station parking areas, new access roads beneath the North Darby Road extension for a future parking garage, traffic signal changes at North Valley Road/Lancaster Avenue and Darby Road/Lancaster Avenue, the removal of the existing North Valley Road Bridge, and modifications to North Valley Road between Lancaster Avenue and the railroad.
The overall Paoli Transportation Center program comprises three phases. Phase 1 involved constructing a pedestrian bridge and ADA improvements at the station building, completed in 2019. Phase 2 includes the PennDOT project, with highway improvements and the relocation of North Valley Road. Phase 3 considers a future parking garage near the south parking lot adjacent to Lancaster Avenue. All three phases are being developed in partnership with Amtrak and SEPTA.
