Work began Monday, April 20th, to replace the Route 724 Bridge over Allegheny Creek in Robeson Township, Berks County.
Beginning on Monday, April 20th, Route 724 closed and is detoured between Route 568 and Annon Street. The detour utilizes Gibraltar Road/West 47th Street, US 422 and Interstate 176. The truck detour will utilize Route 345, US 422, and I-176.
The project involves replacing the existing single span steel I-beam bridge with a new single span pre-stressed concrete beam bridge. Other work includes approach roadway reconstruction, guide rail installation, and slope stabilization.
The existing bridge is 73 feet long and 41 feet wide and was constructed in 1956. The new structure will be 76 feet long and 41 feet wide. This section of Route 724/Main Street has an average daily traffic of 12,618 vehicles.
Lobar Site Development Corporation of Dillsburg, PA is the general contractor on the $2,796,216 project that is anticipated to be complete in October 2026.
