Project Overview

County: Washington
Municipality: North and South Strabane townships
State Route: 19
Local Name: Washington Road
Project Type: Signal Enhancement
MPMS Number: 107432
Proposed Construction Start: Spring 2028

Last Updated: 05/01/2026

This project will upgrade the existing traffic signals on the Route 19 (Washington Road) corridor in North and South Strabane townships, Washington County. The project focuses on 11 intersections encompassing approximately 3.5 miles of Route 19, beginning at Route 1045 (Oak Springs Road/Raymond Boulevard) and ending at Meadowbrook Drive.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety, mobility and traffic operations by upgrading traffic signal equipment, optimizing signal timings and providing American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant facilities. The project is needed to address congestion and reduce queueing as well as bring the traffic signal infrastructure into a state of good repair capable of supporting a coordinated system with remote communications.

Generally, all project intersections will receive various minor enhancements consisting of new signal heads and vehicle detection, upgraded controller cabinet hardware, pedestrian accommodations including curb ramps, push buttons, and signal indications, signing and pavement markings, and other incidental traffic signal items as necessary. The existing signals at Route 1047 (Manifold Road) and Cameron Road intersection will be fully replaced including new poles and mast arms.

The work will be completed while Route 19 traffic is maintained in each direction throughout construction with intermittent short-term single lane restrictions during off-peak (nighttime) periods. Daytime non-restrictive work that does not interfere with normal travel patterns will also be permitted.
