The project includes the partial reconstruction of the two bridges on Hosack Road in Jackson Township, Mercer County, including the abutments and deck, as well as minor paving and updated guide rail. Work will be completed on one bridge at a time.
The bridges, which are owned by Mercer County, are located on Hosack Road between the intersection with Fox Mine Road and the intersection with Route 62.
The first bridge is approximately 3,566 feet south of Fox Mine Road and spans a branch of Yellow Creek. It is rated in poor condition and closed to traffic.
The second is approximately 1,000 feet south of Fox Mine Road and spans Yellow Creek. It is used by approximately 375 vehicles a day, on average. It is rated in poor condition and posted with a weight limit.
Construction is expected to begin July 6, 2026, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October 2027.
The contractor is Jet Excavating Co of New Middletown, Ohio. The contract cost is $987,959, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
Traffic Impacts
The project will require a detour, which will be posted using Fox Mine Road, Clark Road, and Route 62. It is expected to be in place for 16 months.
