The Sheepskin Trail – City of Uniontown project involves the reconstruction of four traffic signals within the City of Uniontown. Signal improvements are necessary to accommodate the planned installation of a separated multi-use trail parallel to the Beeson Avenue corridor. Implementation of the trail will be conducted by other parties and is set to take place after the traffic signals reconstruction period. Three of the signalized intersections are located along the Beeson Avenue corridor, while the fourth is an adjacent intersection that will provide traffic signal control for the trail crossing.
The proposed traffic signal improvements include upgraded traffic signal controllers, enhanced vehicle detection systems, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant pedestrian accommodations, and other operational and safety enhancements. These improvements are intended to enhance safety for all roadway users, particularly pedestrians and trail users, while improving traffic operations through reduced delays, fewer stops, improved traffic progression, and increased overall intersection efficiency within the project area.
