Project Overview
County: Lancaster
Municipality: Elizabeth Township
State Route: 1026
Local Name: Sleepy Hollow Road
Project Type: Road Preservation/Stream Relocation
MPMS Number: 117239
Proposed Construction Start: July 2027
Proposed Construction End: December 2027
Last Updated: May 22, 2026
The project involves the preservation of existing SR 1026-007, locally named Sleepy Hollow Road, located in Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County. Sleepy Hollow Road is classified as a rural neighborhood collector consisting of two (2) 10-foot travel lanes with no shoulders and having an average daily traffic of 530 vehicles per day. In recent years this portion of the roadway segment has endured episodes of repeated and periodic seasonal flooding which is undermining the integrity of the roadway.
Design elements include roadway repairs to the deteriorated pavement and base course, and the evaluation of existing drainage facilities. The existing drainage system and conveyance features will be evaluated during the design portion of this study to determine the required sizing and flow characteristics and either cleaned or modified as necessary to contain and safely convey the peak flows. In addition to the roadway preservation, an Unnamed Tributary to Hammer Creek flowing North to South and parallel to Sleepy Hollow Road will be relocated to the east to alleviate periodic seasonal flooding and provide improved mobility for the traveling public. An earthen berm will be constructed to prevent sedimentation in the relocated channel.
Detour Information
Project to be completed almost entirely through use of staged construction with daily lane restrictions during working hours. Project may implement short-term detour for pipe replacement.
