This bridge rehabilitation project in Rochester and Bridgewater boroughs in Beaver County includes the replacement of the deck, sidewalk, approach slabs, installation of concrete barrier, and rehabilitation of steel pedestrian railing of the Old Rochester-Bridgewater Bridge. The project also includes the full painting of bridge superstructure, structural steel repairs, and expansion joint replacement, replacement of all bridge bearings, drainage systems, navigation lighting, and substructure concrete and masonry repairs.
The West Madison Street Bridge rehabilitation will include superstructure replacement, replacement of the approach slabs, installation of protective pedestrian fencing, and substructure repairs and modifications.
Detour Information
Long-Term Detour: Rochester-Bridgewater Bridge and West Madison St. Bridge will both be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the project. Traffic will be detoured to the adjacent Beaver-Rochester Bridge (carrying Route 68/51), located about 600 feet to the south. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction.
Short-Term Detour: Route 65 will have multiple short-term closures during the superstructure replacement work occurring on the West Madison St. Bridge. Traffic will be detoured to the adjacent Beaver-Rochester Bridge (carrying Route 68/51). Lane restrictions will be necessary on Route 65 during various project phases.

Environmental Features
When federal funds or permitting is included, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act requires that federal agencies consider the presence of and impacts to historic and archaeological properties. The Bridgewater Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and the Old Rochester-Bridgewater Bridge is a contributing resource to that historic district. The bridge is not individually eligible for the NRHP.
Other known historic properties are within the vicinity but not likely affected by the proposed project. Section 106 affords the opportunity for Consulting Party (CP) participation; CPs are accepted based on historic preservation, legal or economic concerns relating to the project. If you would like more information on Consulting Party participation or the Section 106 consultation process, then contact a project team member.
This project involves taking a slope easement from a Section 4(f) resource (publicly owned parks, recreational areas, wildlife and waterfowl refuges, or public and private historical sites). Under Section 4(f), the public must be afforded an opportunity to review and comment on the effects of the project on the protected activities, features, and attributes of the property.
