The Tarentum Bridge and Interchange Ramps Rehabilitation Project is located in Tarentum Borough, Allegheny County and the City of New Kensington, Westmoreland County.
The Tarentum Bridge carries Route 0366 over the Allegheny River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, and East 1st Avenue. The project will consist of a deck replacement, superstructure, and substructure repairs and full paint for the Tarentum Bridge main span. The new Tarentum Bridge deck will be an exodermic grid deck, and will match the existing out-to-out width. New joints and bearings will be included in the project, along with steel repairs to truss members and concrete repairs to the abutment and piers. Interchange bridge ramp improvements will consist of preservation activities that include deck overlays, joint replacements, bearing replacements, superstructure, and substructure repairs as well as full paint of the existing superstructures. The project will also include minimal approach roadway work with guide rail updates.
The project is tentatively slated to begin construction in 2027 with an anticipated completion of construction activitites in the winter of 2029.
Additional Project Information
Several Traffic Control Phases will be implemented to permit construction activities.
Tarentum Bridge Main Span Construction Activities: one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction utilizing a cross-over during deck replacement activities.
During Phase 1, construction will be performed within the eastbound lanes while bi-directional traffic (one lane in each direction) is maintained along the westbound lanes. Ramps A, C and D will be closed to traffic and detoured during Phase 1.
During Phase 2, construction will be performed within the westbound lanes while bi-directional traffic (one lane in each direction) is maintained along the eastbound lanes. Ramps B and D will be closed during Phase 2 and all traffic will access the main span utilizing Ramp A which will carry one lane of traffic in each direction. Ramp C will remain open during Phase 2.
Ramp C Construction Activities: will require a full closure and detour - the detour will utilize East 7th Avenue, Lock Street, and East 1st Avenue. The detour is approximately 0.5 miles.
Ramp D Construction Activities: will require a full closure and detour - the detour will utilize East 1st Avenue, Lock Street, and East 7th Avenue. The detour is approximately 0.5 miles.
Temporary signal phasing and timing modifications are anticipated to accommodate the proposed Traffic Control.
