This project involves pavement reconstruction & resurfacing, replacing signals, guiderail, signing and pavement marking updates, new ADA curb ramps and other miscellaneous construction on Route 837 A54 (North State Street, Clairton/Dravosburg Road and Washington Avenue) from the intersection of Mendelsohn Avenue to the railroad crossing near the Watco Plant. There is a section of Route 837 that is a separate project between the railroad overpass to Lebanon School Road. Similar work will be occur on Walnut Ave (Route 0885 A55) from the intersection on North State Street (Route 837 ) to just past the Ravensburg Boulevard for approximately 3.19 miles in length. The project is located in the City of Clairton, Jefferson Hills, West Mifflin and Dravosburg Boroughs in Allegheny County.
On Route 837 asphalt reconstruction will take place from the intersection of Mendelsohn Avenue to Locust Street, followed by asphalt resurfacing to the intersection of Walnut Avenue (Route 885). From Route 885 intersection to approximately 200' after the New Jersey Avenue intersection the existing concrete pavement will be reconstructed. The remainder of Route 837 will be mill and resurfacing of the existing asphalt pavement. The construction on Route 885 will consist of concrete reconstruction.
There will be approximately 11 small strip takes along the frontages of parcels to replace existing guiderail and signal pole that are currently outside of existing Right-of-Way.
Environmental
Within the project limits there is Clairton Park and Dravosburg Ballfields but will not be affected by the project. Access to these facilities will be maintained at all times during construction.
Detour Information
Traffic during construction is anticipated to utilize a combination of short-term and long-term flagging operations on Route 837. To complete the concrete reconstruction of Route 885 there will be truck detours and phased short car detours utilizing municipality roads. The northbound truck detour will be approximately 14.6 miles in length and the southbound truck detour will be approximately 4.6 miles in length.
