    This federally-funded project involves permanent repairs to sinkholes at two spots along U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass), between the U.S. Business 30 (Lancaster Avenue) interchange and Clover Mill Road. In addition to fixing the sinkholes, nearby drainage basins will be improved to help prevent future issues.

    The work area stretches along U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass) from about three-quarters of a mile west of the Clover Mill Road bridge to about a quarter of a mile east of the bridge, in West Whiteland Township.

    The goal of the project is to address sinkhole activity and ensure smooth and safe traffic flow on U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass).

    In addition to the sinkhole repair, PennDOT added resurfacing work using state funding to address the pavement concerns along the eastern end of U.S. 30 in Chester County.

    PennDOT's contractor will resurface approximately 2.3 miles of eastbound U.S. 30 (Coatesville Downingtown Bypass) between U.S. 322 (Horseshoe Pike) to just past the Route 113 (Uwchlan Avenue). The resurfacing work will begin on Tuesday, September 8, with milling operations. Nighttime lane closures will be in place on sections of the corridor as the contractor works to mill and pave U.S. 30 East (Coatesville Downingtown Bypass) late this summer and through the fall.

    Construction/Traffic Update

    Construction began on Monday, September 29, 2025, on the $6.8 million project to provide long-term sinkhole remediation on U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass) in West Whiteland and East Caln townships, Chester County.

    Drivers will encounter weekday lane closures from 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM through fall 2026, on U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass) between Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue).

    Physical work on this project is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
