The Streets Run Road Improvement Project is located in Whitehall Borough, Baldwin Borough, West Mifflin Borough, and the City of Pittsburgh in Allegheny County. The project begins at the Streets Run Road and Brownsville Road intersection and extends east to the ramp to Route 885 (Mifflin Road). The total length of the project is approximately 4.6 miles.

The proposed scope of work includes milling and resurfacing of the asphalt roadway, minor bridge preservation work to 3 structures within the project limits, the installation of three retaining walls between the roadway and stream to preserve the failing slope, minor drainage improvements, guide rail updates, traffic signal work including a full replacement at the Brownsville Road intersection, signing updates, and updates to pavement markings and delineation.

Additional Project Information

Traffic through the construction project will mostly utilize short-term flagging operations to maintain one lane of alternating traffic during off-peak hours. The retaining wall construction will require long-term traffic restrictions at three different locations along Route 2046. For Wall Location 1, one lane of alternating traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals between Old Clairton Road and Spangler Street. For Wall Location 2, Route 2046 will be closed and detoured between Prospect Road and Brentwood Road, except for local traffic. Local traffic passing through the work area will only be able to travel in the westbound direction. The entire detour loop is approximately 9 miles and will utilize Route 2046 (Streets Run Road), Route 51 (Clairton Boulevard), Route 2040 (Lebanon Church Road), and Route 885 (Lebanon Road | Mifflin Road). For Wall Location 3, one lane of alternating traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals between the Route 885 on and off ramps. The required duration of each closure will be refined as the project progresses through design. Updated information will be provided as the project approaches construction.
