    The Route 61 project includes full depth pavement reconstruction, safety improvements including realignment of several substandard curves, heavy excavation, intersection upgrades at Darkwater Road, wider shoulders, reconstruction and/or rehabilitation of eight culverts and four retaining walls, a bridge, slope stabilization, message boards, sign structures, ADA curb ramps and miscellaneous construction.

    The project also includes upgrading the Route 61 intersection with Darkwater Road in New Castle Township. This intersection will be widened, turning lanes will be added, and a traffic signal will be added.

    J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, PA is the contractor on the $115,574,431.25 project.
