Construction is expected to begin April 1, 2026, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October 29, 2026. Minor landscaping work will be done in spring 2027.

The project will require a detour, which will be posted using Route 19, Route 258, and Courtney Road. It is expected to be in place for seven months.

The contractor is A Merante Contracting Inc of Pittsburgh, PA. The contract cost is $2,355,222, which is to be paid with 80 percent federal funds and 15 percent state funds and 5 percent local funds.

Project Location

Old Mercer Road bridge replacement project location map

The current Pratt through-truss structure was built in 1922. It has an existing average daily traffic of approximately 400 vehicles with 4% truck traffic. The bridge is owned by Mercer County.

The current structure is in poor condition and has a posted with a 9-ton/13-tons combination weight limit and a 14-foot, 5-inch vertical clearance restriction. The structure is between two substandard S curves making it difficult for trucks to use the bridge.

The bridge is located near Junkin Mill/Hope Mills archaeological site (36ME0304), which is classified as a historical site according to the National Register of Historic Places. An investigation of the site was done in summer 2023 and it was determined the bridge project is considered a De Minimis Use, which means the project will not adversely affect the features, attributes or qualities that qualify the property for protection under as a historical location.
