The existing bridge is a 395-foot-long, 54-foot-wide steel multi-girder bridge that spans SEPTA’s Airport, Wilmington/Newark, and Media/Wawa regional rail lines. The substructures were rehabilitated as part of a joint PennDOT/SEPTA project in 2020-2021. The bridge deck is scheduled for rehabilitation in 2028. The project is coordinated with the City of Philadelphia, Amtrak, SEPTA, Drexel University, the University City District, and the Schuylkill Yards development.
