Project Overview
County: Allegheny
Municipality: City of McKeesport
Local Name: Versailles Avenue
Project Type: Bridge Replacement
MPMS Number: 28044
Proposed Construction Start: Summer 2027
Proposed Construction End: Fall 2029
Last Updated: September 2025
This project is the replacement of the existing structure that carries Versailles Avenue over Ravine Street in the City of McKeesport, Allegheny County. The existing structure is a 3-span, steel stringer bridge that was built in 1972. The existing structure is currently closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic due to the deteriorated condition of primary load carrying elements of the structure.
Anticipated work includes replacement of the existing structure with a single span steel girder bridge with minimal approach roadway work. Replacement of existing sidewalks within the immediate vicinity of the structure is anticipated.
The purpose of this project is to address the deteriorating condition of the bridge and restore safe and efficient access on Versailles Avenue for the traveling public, local residents, and emergency services. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 or 2028 and is expected to be completed by the end of the 2029 construction season.
Additional Project Information
The current permanent detour for Versailles Avenue will be used during construction. The proposed detour is approximately 1.1 miles long and includes a pedestrian detour that is approximately 0.88 miles long.
A detour for Ravine Street will be in place during construction for work under the structure. The proposed detour is approximately 0.77 miles long.
See the Detour Plan for more information.
