This project is to replace the Route 1015/Donat Road over Stony Run Creek in Albany Township, Berks County.
The existing structure is a two-span concrete encased rolled steel I-beam superstructure with a concrete deck, supported by reinforced concrete abutments with flared wingwalls and a reinforced concrete wall pier. The single lane bridge was constructed in 1924, carries two-way traffic, and has an average daily traffic volume of 89 vehicles.
The existing structure will be replaced with a single-span prestressed concrete spread box beam with a reinforced concrete deck slab. The project will also include the replacement of approach guide rail, approach roadway, and signing and pavement markings that are impacted by construction.
Additional Project Information
The construction of the bridge will be performed using a full detour. A map of the Stony Run Road and Nursery Road detour is available in the Resources section of this page. Access to driveways within the project limits will be maintained during construction.
A temporary access road/causeway crossing Stony Run will be provided to the west (downstream) of the bridge to accommodate farm equipment that needs access to both sides of the stream during construction. There are no existing pedestrian or bicycle facilities on or near the project bridge.
