Project Overview

County: Wayne
Municipality: Buckingham and Manchester Townships
State Route: Route 1023, Section 02M
Local Name: Lordsville Road over Equinunk Creek
Project Type: Bridge Replacement

The Route 1023 Section 02M project involves the replacement of the crossing of Route 1023 (Lordsville Road) over Equinunk Creek in Buckingham and Manchester Townships, Wayne County, PA. The project proposes to replace the existing single span steel thru girder bridge with a new single span prestressed concrete bridge. Additional roadway improvements on the bridge approaches include full depth pavement reconstruction, new drainage, guide rail, signing, and pavement markings.

Utility impacts are anticipated and will require temporary and/or permanent relocation of overhead lines. There will be temporary construction easements, required right-of-way, and a drainage easement necessary for this project. An underground spring-fed waterline with an unknown owner in the southeastern portion of the project will be impacted by the proposed construction. No wetlands are present within the project limits.

The bridge replacement will be completed by maintaining a single lane of Route 1023 traffic over the bridge crossing using temporary signals. A detour is not proposed for any stage of construction. Short-term single lane closures using flaggers are expected in the intermediate stages of construction to install a new drainage system and complete paving operations.

Historical or cultural resources present within the project site include the Equinunk Historic District (Resource No. 1991RE00830) and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River Management Area (UDSRRMA). Neither of these site resources will be adversely impacted as part of this project.
