Work began Monday, March 2nd, on a traffic signal improvement project on Mauch Chunk Road in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County.

The project involves the installation of new traffic signals and pedestrian facilities at the intersection at Mauch Chuck Road and Presidential Drive.

The project also includes replacing the existing traffic signal equipment at the intersection of Mauch Chunk Road and Scherersville Road and the intersection of Mauch Chunk Road and Girard/Pirma Avenue. New pedestrian crosswalks and pushbuttons will also be added.

The project also includes tree clearing, utility relocation, drainage work, intersection widening and paving.

Beginning Monday, March 2, Mauch Chunk Road will have sporadic daytime (9 AM – 3 PM) and nighttime (6 PM – 6 AM) lane restrictions with flagging between Scherersville and Gallagher roads.

Updates on traffic conditions will be provided when available.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, PA is the general contractor on the $1,727,527 project that is anticipated to be complete in August 2027.
