The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an updated online plans display regarding State Route 3012 Section 037 (Derry Street Bridge Rehabilitation project) at the Spring Creek crossing. This project is located in Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough, Dauphin County between Wilhelm Road and Rosewood Lane on Derry Street.
The proposed project will rehabilitate a bridge over Spring Creek in a two lane, two-way section of Derry Street. This will include replacing bridge beams, the bridge deck, repairing the northeast wing wall and rehabilitating the abutments. The bridge will be constructed in stages while maintaining bi-directional traffic. Truck traffic will be detoured due to narrow lanes. During removal and installation of the bridge beams, up to six weekend full closures will occur. Signing, pavement markings, and minor drainage may be updated. Additionally, there will be some traffic calming enacted to slow traffic during construction.
A two-stage reconstruction was previously shared. As an alternative, the Department may elect to reconstruct the bridge in three stages while maintaining bi-directional traffic and pedestrians. The three-stage option may be necessary depending on the coordination and timing of other local and PennDOT projects.
The project is currently in design, and construction work is expected to take place in the 2027-2028 construction season. The duration of construction is anticipated to last 12 months.
A digital version of the project plans and information including the three-stage option will be available to view online from approximately November 13, 2025, through December 15, 2025.
