Last Updated: May 2025

The project involves intersection safety and traffic improvements along Route 452 (Market Street) at the I-95 interchange in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County. Improvements on Route 452 include: widening to provide a longer southbound left turn lane at the intersection with the I-95 southbound ramps and Chestnut Street; widening for a dedicated northbound right turn lane onto the I-95 southbound entrance ramp; widening for a dedicated northbound right turn lane at the intersection with the I-95 northbound entrance ramp; and milling and overlay. Median islands Route 452 will be removed and replaced in new locations to separate opposing directions and to discourage mid-block left turns. Geometric improvements will be provided at the I-95 southbound ramp intersection with Route 452 and signal equipment upgrades. The I-95 northbound ramp intersection with Route 452 will be converted from a two-way stop to a fully signalized intersection with pedestrian accommodations. The I-95 northbound exit ramp will be widened from a single left/thru lane to a three-lane section with two left turn lanes and a right turn lane. The I-95 southbound exit ramp will be widened from a single left/through/right lane to a three-lane section with a left turn lane, through lane, and right turn lane. New curbs and sidewalks will also be installed in various areas within the project.
