The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing drivers of minor delays from lane closures on U.S. 30 (Lincoln Highway) between T-706 (Scenic Road) and Route 4010 (Pitt Street), and on Route 1033 (Sunnyside Extension), in Bedford Borough, Bedford County, beginning Monday, March 23, 2026.
New Enterprise Stone & Lime, New Enterprise, Pa., is the lead contractor for the 3.4-mile, $6,059,067 pavement and bridge restoration project, which is anticipated to be completed on October 14, 2026.
Between March 23 and April 3, 2026, contractors will be placing temporary barriers on the U.S 30 (Lincoln Highway) west bypass ramp and the right lane of Route 4010 (Pitt Street) with the left travel lane and gore (the space between the through-lane and the entrance/exit ramp) closed. Access to Rutters will not be affected. The right lane and shoulder of Route 4010 (Pitt Street) east of Bedford will be closed with minor delays to traffic traveling into Bedford Borough.
Contractors will be preparing and placing new concrete pavement in the gore areas, and bridge restoration work will be completed under lane and shoulder closings, with minimal impact to traffic expected.
As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Drivers should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
Additionally, PennDOT reminds drivers that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
