Highland North Wind Farm Project

Windmill Blade Deliveries Through Blair, Bedford, Cambria and Somerset Counties to Summerhill Township Wind Farm Scheduled for February 12 and 13

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of the potential for lengthy delays from the movement of superloads consisting of windmill blades through Blair, Bedford, Cambria and Somerset counties on Thursday and Friday this week.

Destined for the Highland North Wind Farm near Beaverdale, off Route 2010 (Frankstown Road) in Summerhill Township, Cambria County, the superloads are scheduled to travel north from Maryland on Thursday, February 12, and Friday, February 13, 2026.

The first windmill blade is scheduled to leave Maryland at 8:00 AM Thursday, February 12, and travel through Bedford and Blair counties on U.S. 220/Interstate 99 (I-99). The load will use I-99’s Exit 23 – Roaring Spring-Portage to access Route 164 (Dunnings Highway/Johnstown Road) to Route 2010 (Frankstown Road) in Cambria County.

Windmill blades will also be delivered at 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 12, and 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM Friday, February 13, using U.S. 219 through Somerset County to the St. Michael-Sidman Exit in Cambria County before accessing Route 869 (Locus Street), and Route 160 (Forest Hills Drive).

Drivers should remain alert for these slow-moving, two-lane operations and use alternate routes when possible. Traveling both the posted speed limit and slower as needed, superloads will occasionally pull over to allow traffic to pass.  Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage.
