Somerset, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the Somerset Driver License Center, located at 5593 Glades Pike in Somerset, will be closed for renovations from Monday, April 20 to Monday, July 20, 2026 and will reopen for services on Tuesday, July 21.
The Somerset Driver License Center is the 24th of PennDOT’s driver license centers to undergo major building renovations since 2023. In keeping with the Shapiro Administration’s continued commitment to modernizing facilities and improving the customer experience, twenty-three other centers across the Commonwealth have also been enhanced, improving the customer experience for Pennsylvanians who visit a driver license center.
Upgrades planned for Somerset Driver License Center include electrical upgrades throughout the facility, new lighting, flooring, insulation, and ceilings; the installation and upgrade to the center’s security cameras; and the installation of an additional driver license service counter that will allow for more efficient customer service and lower wait times.
“We’re delighted that the Somerset Driver License Center is joining PennDOT’s list of locations that have received major renovations since 2023,” said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services Kara Templeton. “We are confident that these upgrades fall right in line with one of our primary missions at PennDOT: to serve Pennsylvanians well. We thank the public for their patience during the closure and look forward to welcoming customers to the refreshed facility.”
To provide additional support to Somerset-area customers impacted by the closure, the Bedford Driver License Center located at 137 Bedford Plaza Road, Route 30, will expand staffing and increase its service hours during the months of renovations to Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM.
Customers who have a driving exam scheduled at the Somerset Driver License Center during the closure will be contacted and offered alternative arrangements.
