Updates on Two Bridge Projects on U.S. 219 (Flight 93 Memorial Highway) in Somerset County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of the potential for minor delays on U.S. 219 (Flight 93 Memorial Highway) in Somerset County over the next two weeks as work continues on two bridge projects.

Between Monday, October 13, and Friday, October 24, 2025, the project contractor, New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. (NES&L), New Enterprise, Pa., will be completing work on the Miller Road bridge in Quemahoning Township and opening the southbound lane of U.S. 219. NES&L will be removing the crossover barriers and constructing new crossover in the median areas for next construction season.

Minimal traffic delays are also expected at the Route 601 (North Center Avenue) exit in Somerset Township as subcontractor Amari Painting & Lining LLC, Washington, Pa., begins bridge painting. The work is weather dependent.

The work is part of a 3-year, $25 million project that includes paving, concrete patching, pipe cleaning and lining, and clearing and grubbing (the removal and disposal of vegetation, trash, and both natural and man-made objects from a construction site), the renovation of multiple bridge-structures, and drainage, guide rail and signage upgrades along five (5) miles of U.S. 219 in Somerset County. The project’s anticipated completion date is November of 2026. The project is weather dependent.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
