    I-99 Newry to 17th Street Project

    Daylight and Overnight Short-term Lane closures to Continue on Interstate 99 between the Median Cross-over near Newry and 17th Street Exit in Blair County through October 24

     The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of short-term lane closures on Interstate 99 (I-99) from the median cross-over near Newry to 17th Street Interchange in Blair County, beginning the week of October 13, 2025.

    From October 13 to October 17, single-lane restrictions during overnight hours (8:00 PM to 6:00 AM) will be in place on I-99 northbound between Cross Keys interchange and 17th Street.

    From October 13 to October 24, single-lane restrictions will be in place during daylight hours from the Cross Keys interchange to the median cross-over near Newry for bridge repairs.

    From October 20 to October 24, single-lane restrictions during overnight hours (8:00 PM to 6:00 AM) will be in place on I-99 from Cross Keys interchange to north of the 17th Street interchange for shoulder repairs.  

    New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Inc., New Enterprise, Pa., is the contractor for the $23,500,000 project, which includes improvements along 10-miles of I-99 from the median cross-over near Newry to 17th Street exit in Blair County. The work is scheduled to be completed in September of 2025.    

    As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage.    

    Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.       

    Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
