Permanent Repairs Planned for Ashville Road (Route 2006) Covered Bridge in Lancaster County

The bridge, which spans Octoraro Creek at the Chester County line, was damaged by a vehicle strike

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that permanent repairs are scheduled for the Ashville Road (Route 2006) covered bridge spanning Octoraro Creek at the Chester County line in Little Britain Township, Lancaster County. The bridge will be closed for this work.

Weather permitting, this work is expected to begin Monday, October 20, and take about six weeks to complete. A detour, part of which is in Chester County, will be in place using Lloyds Road, Route 272, Route 3016 (Hopewell Road) and Route 3001 (Forge Road).

The bridge was closed in late March after being struck and damaged by a vehicle. Lancaster County maintenance forces performed temporary repairs to reopen the bridge in April until these permanent repairs can be completed.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the contractor for this work.

An updated press release will be issued when permanent repairs are completed and the bridge reopens to traffic.
