Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that utility construction is scheduled on Vine Street under an $8.5 million project to improve safety along a section of Vine Street in Center City Philadelphia.
Drivers are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Wednesday, March 4, through Saturday, March 7, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on westbound Vine Street between 8th Street and 10th Street.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
As part of this safety project, PennDOT will implement several pedestrian and cyclist improvements on Vine Street. The project will include a road diet (reducing the number of lanes from three to two) along Vine Street in both directions between 8th Street and Broad Street (Route 611), upgrading traffic signals; installing ADA-compliant curb ramps, bump-outs, and bike lanes; and performing a complete mill and overlay of the roadway.
C. Abbonizio Contractors, Inc., of Sewell, New Jersey, is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Physical construction on the project is expected to finish in the summer of 2026.
