    Roadway Construction Scheduled on U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), Route 926 (Street Road) Intersection in Thornbury, Westtown Townships

    King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that roadway construction will occur at the U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Route 926 (Street Road) Intersection under a $2.9 million project to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes through the intersection in Thornbury and Westtown townships, Chester County.

    Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

    Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

    Under this contract, PennDOT’s contractor will install a new southbound right-turn deceleration lane on U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) at the Route 926 (Street Road) Intersection. An additional eastbound left-turn lane will be installed on Route 926 (Street Road), creating a double left-turn configuration along the eastbound approach to the intersection with U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike).

    Other safety improvements include upgrading signalization and ADA curb ramps, as well as milling and paving operations.

    The project will also follow special provisions to monitor the impact on The Westtown Inn, which is in the northwest quadrant of the intersection. The Inn was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in September 2015.

    Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

    Physical construction on the project is expected to finish this summer.
