Bridge Replacement to Close Cheyney Road in Thornbury Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will close Cheyney Road under an $829,772 to replace the bridge that carries Cheyney Road over a branch of Chester Creek in Thornbury Township, Delaware County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

During the closure, passenger vehicles will be directed to use Creek Road/Westtown Road, Route 926 (Street Road), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), Dilworthtown Road, Concord Road, Westtown Road, and Glen Mills Road. Trucks will be directed to use Creek Road/Westtown Road, Route 926 (Street Road), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), and U.S. 322/U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike).

Local access will be maintained at all times. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when driving near the work area or along the detour routes because backups and delays could occur. The schedule is weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will replace the 94-year-old reinforced concrete slab bridge with a reinforced concrete box culvert. This will expand the width of the bridge by five feet on each side to accommodate two 11-foot travel lanes with four-foot shoulders.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
