Milling, Paving to Close One Lane on Eastbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) Next Weekend in Center City Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that milling and paving operations will close a lane on eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in the University City section of Philadelphia, beginning Friday night, August 22.

Weather permitting, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

In addition, the South Street ramps to and from eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured while the left lane closure is in place on eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway). Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes to access South Street or eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).

Drivers are advised that significant backups and delays will occur on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) approaching the work areas. Motorists are encouraged to use I-676 and I-95, or I-476 and I-95 to avoid delays on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).

Electronic message boards on I-76 and other regional transportation arteries will be utilized to alert motorists about the weekend lane closures.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
