Road Closure and Detour In Scranton Due to Sink Hole Repair

Dunmore, PA – North Main Avenue between Green Ridge Street and Clearview Street in Scranton will be closed to traffic from 7:00 AM on Thursday, May 14, 2026, through the evening of Friday, May 15, 2026, weather dependent, for permanent repair to a sink hole caused by a water main break which was temporarily repaired on April 9, 2026. Flaggers will be in place south of the closure to redirect trucks and passenger vehicles to Providence Road and the Biden Expressway. Flaggers will also be in place north of the closure to direct traffic onto West Market Street. The area around the closure will be open to local traffic.

The following detours will allow drivers to avoid the area:

Traveling North on North Main Avenue:

•                Turn Left onto the ramp for Biden Expressway (Route 11 North)

•                Take North Keyser Avenue Exit

•                Turn right onto North Keyser Avenue

•                Turn right onto West Market Street

•                End Detour at North Main Avenue

Traveling South on North Main Avenue:

•                Turn right onto West Market Street

•                Turn left onto North Keyser Avenue

•                Turn left onto ramp for Biden Expressway (Route 11 South)

•                Take Main Avenue Exit

•                Detour ends at North Main Avenue

When encountering a work zone, please drive the posted speed limit, turn on your headlights, pay close attention to signs and flaggers, and avoid all distractions. In high-traffic locations, motorists are encouraged to use both lanes of travel to the merge point and take turns merging into the open lane.
