Montoursville, PA – Preparation work continues for the repair of the Wyalusing River Bridge, which carries Wyalusing New Albany Road (Route 2010) over the Susquehanna River in Terry and Wyalusing townships, Bradford County.
Utility companies have relocated their infrastructure on the bridge, the bridge deck was cleaned, and additional measurements were taken to complete the design plans for the repair of the bridge.
Final design for the repair is anticipated to be completed this week, after which, procurement of the steel and additional materials needed for the repair will begin. Once the needed materials are obtained, the contractor will mobilize and begin repair work which will be performed 7 days a week.
Drivers are advised that a portion of Wyalusing New Albany Road (Route 2010) remains closed in both directions between Route 187 in Terry Township and Route 6, A detour using Route 187 and Route 6 remains in place.
PennDOT understands that the Wyalusing River Bridge is a critical connection for the residents of the northern tier, and we will continue to make this repair a priority and open this road as soon as possible. The anticipated reopening date is Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
The Wyalusing River Bridge was stuck by an oversized load on Tuesday, March 24. Several steel members of the truss bridge were damaged in the strike. PennDOT inspected the damaged bridge and determined that due to the extent of the damages, the bridge will remain closed until the repairs are made. PennDOT maintenance and bridge staff responded to the bridge within an hour of the strike, and a preliminary inspection showed several members of the bridge were damaged, requiring the bridge to be closed.
PennDOT reminds drivers to "Check Your Height, Know It's Right". Drivers are responsible for knowing the height of their vehicle - whether a personal vehicle or a rented one - and observing and complying with posted bridge heights. Using the “Check Your Height, Know It’s Right” tool, drivers can avoid hitting bridges with vehicles. According to PennDOT data, in the 10 years between 2013 and 2023, there were more than 600 bridge strikes to bridges or other overhead structures in PA.
Built in 1942, the Wyalusing River Bridge has carried Wyalusing New Albany Road over the Susquehanna River, connecting Wyalusing and Terry townships for nearly 80 years. This 12-span bridge, including a four-span steel truss is nearly 1,500 feet in length, has a reinforced concrete bridge deck, and has a vertical clearance of 14’ 9”. With an average daily traffic county of more than 5,500 vehicles, this bridge is an essential traffic corridor in the region. The bridge was last reconditioned in 1993 to prolong the life of the structure.
