Improvement Project Continues in the City of Sunbury and Upper Augusta Township, Northumberland County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a road and bridge improvement project continues on Front Street (Routes 405/61) in the City of Sunbury and the Thomas Edison and Joseph Briestley bridges in Upper August Township, Northumberland County.

Starting on May 11, 2026, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. will begin milling the existing road on Front Street between Church Street and Shikellamy Avenue (Route 4008) and Bridge Avenue (Route 405) in Upper Augusta Township. Paving operations will be performed the week of May 18. Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed. Work will be performed Sundays through Thursdays between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM, weather permitting.

Construction of the ADA sidewalk ramps will continue at various intersections on Front Street. Drivers can expect shoulder restrictions between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Pedestrians can anticipate closed sidewalks where work is being performed.

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is the prime contractor for this $3.7 million roadway improvement project. Additional work includes milling and resurfacing on Front Street in Sunbury and Bridge Avenue in Upper Augusta Township, overhead sign replacement on the Thomas Edison Bridge, epoxy overlay and lighting upgrades on the Thomas Edison and Joseph Priestley bridges, guide rail upgrades, tree trimming and pavement markings. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in November 2026.
