Bridge Work This Weekend on Edison Bridge in Northumberland County

Montoursville, PA – Drivers are advised that a bridge maintenance and roadway resurfacing project continues this weekend on Route 405 in Upper Augusta Township and in the City of Sunbury, Northumberland County.

On Saturday, May 30, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. will continue preparation work for the application of a new wearing surface on the two bridges spanning the Susquehanna River between Northumberland Borough and the City of Sunbury. Work this weekend includes creating a grooved surface of the existing bare concrete deck of the Edison Bridge prior to the application of an epoxy overlay.  This work will be performed between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM and will be performed under single – lane conditions with flaggers controlling traffic.

Gleen O. Hawbaker, Inc. is the prime contractor for this $3.7 million roadway improvement project. Additional work includes milling and resurfacing on Front Street in Sunbury and Bridge Avenue in Upper Augusta Township, overhead sign replacement on the Thomas Edison Bridge, epoxy overlay and lighting upgrades on the Thomas Edison and Joseph Priestley bridges, guide rail upgrades, tree trimming and pavement markings. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in November 2026.
