Montoursville, PA – Drivers are advised that a bridge replacement project is set to begin on Salem Road (Route 1011) in Penn Township, Snyder County. This bridge replacement, originally scheduled to begin in July 2026, was rescheduled due to extended coordination with multiple utility companies.
Starting on Monday, September 14, Salem Road will be closed daily between Fair Oak Road (Route 1002) and Ridgeview Road while a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) bridge crew replaces the bridge over a tributary to Penns Creek.
A detour using Fair Oak Road, Hollow Road, North Hills Drive, and Jackson Road will be in place through early November.
Work on this bridge replacement project being performed by PennDOT department forces will include existing bridge removal and site prep. A contractor, Robert C. Young, Inc., will place a precast box culvert in Mid-October. PennDOT crews will complete backfilling, approach work, paving, and line painting to complete the project. The bridge, which was built in 1941, has an average daily traffic of 478.
