Update on Eighth Street Bridge Strike in Delaware Township, Northumberland County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that lane shifts on Eighth Street (Route 1006) in Delaware Township, Northumberland County will remain in place long-term following a bridge strike with downed utilities that occurred on Friday, September 26, 2025. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) bridge inspections crews inspected the bridge and deemed it safe to open under channelizing devices controlling traffic.

Permanent traffic control devices will be placed in approximately one week, and motorists can expect a lane shift with a reduced speed limit until a project to repair the damaged beam and partial bridge deck replacement can be completed.

The repair project is in the design phase with an expected letting in early spring 2026. Construction is expected to begin next summer.
