Route 22 Bridge Preservation Project Starts Monday

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a bridge preservation project along Route 22 in Delaware and Walker townships in Juniata County will start on Monday, March 30. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of three bridges within the work zone.

Starting Monday, the contractor will close one lane of Route 22 westbound between Thompsontown and Port Royal as work on a pair of bridges, one spanning Route 333 and Delaware Creek and another spanning Route 2007 (Locust Run Road) and Locust Run, gets underway. PennDOT is also reducing the speed limit through this two-mile stretch from 65 mph to 55 mph while work is ongoing. It urges drivers to exercise caution in work zones, obey posted speed limits, not follow construction vehicles into the close lane, and to always buckle their seat belts.

In total, three bridges will see work as part of this contract. The third bridge also spans Route 333 and Delaware Creek but is located on the eastbound side of Route 22. PennDOT will issue an update before the contractor starts on the third bridge.

The contractor will complete concrete deck and structural repairs, bridge painting, approach paving, drainage improvements, guide rail installation, line painting, and miscellaneous construction under this contract. Rylind Construction Company, Inc., of Muncy, PA, is the contractor on this $5.6 million contract. PennDOT anticipates project completion in mid-November, but all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
