Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work to repair a railroad crossing on Route 120 (South Michael Street) and the start of a bridge replacement project on Route 1005 (Theresia Street) will impact traffic in the City of St. Marys starting Monday, August 11. Repairing the crossing will improve rail infrastructure, ride quality, and enhance safety for motorists, while replacing the bridge will enhance motorist safety by removing a deteriorating structure.
The Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad plans to close the crossing Monday morning. While it is closed, PennDOT’s official detour for westbound traffic will use John, Stackpole, Depot, Fourth/Lawrence, and Washington streets around the closure. This detour also applies to traffic attempting to turn left onto South Michael Street from General Edward Meyer Boulevard. Drivers familiar with the area may wish to consider alternate routes to avoid the area entirely.
Work on the railroad crossing will not impact traffic approaching from Route 255 southbound. PennDOT anticipates this being a two-day closure, but the railroad will reopen earlier should work progress allow. PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in the work zone, remain alert for railroad operators and equipment, approach railroad crossings carefully, and “Always expect a train.”
Also on Monday, PennDOT will close Theresia Street at a bridge spanning an unnamed tributary of Elk Creek. While it is closed, traffic will follow a detour using Route 120 and Filmore Road. PennDOT anticipates this detour will remain in place until mid-September.
