Route 22 Restoration Work in Juniata, Mifflin Counties Starts Monday

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a highway restoration project along Route 22 in Juniata and Mifflin counties will get underway on Monday, July 14. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of more than 16 miles across the two counties.

Starting Monday, the contractor will close the left (passing) lane of Route 22 westbound approximately two miles before the Lewistown exit. The lane closure will continue westbound for approximately four miles.

The following week, on Monday, July 21, the contractor will close the passing lane on the eastbound side just past the East Charles Street exit. This lane closure will also continue westbound for approximately four miles.

PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up in work zones. It expects these lane closures to be in place for approximately two months before work switches to the opposite lane and will issue an update before the switches on each side. All work is weather-dependent.

Work for this contract includes highway restoration, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. JVI Group, Inc., of York Springs, PA, is the contractor for this $5.9 million project. PennDOT expects work on this project to carry over into the 2026 construction season.
