Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing scheduled temporary single-lane and speed restrictions on Interstate 70 beginning Wednesday, February 5, in Donegal Township, Washington County.
Eastbound and westbound traffic will be shifted to the inner passing lanes and reduced to a 45-mph speed limit between the West Virginia state line and one mile east of Exit 1 (West Alexander).
The restrictions are being implemented in response to potential impacts from Alliance Resource Partners, L.P., and Tunnel Ridge, LLC’s longwall mining operations at Tunnel Ridge Mine. They will remain in place for several weeks (no end date set) until mining is complete and roadway conditions allow for normal traffic flow.
Speed minders and message boards will be stationed in the area to notify of traffic pattern and speed changes. Drivers are encouraged to use the zipper merge technique for enhanced efficiency and safety. Learn how and why by reading “The Zipper Merge: The Best Way to Merge in Traffic” from the American Automobile Association’s AAA Connect and viewing tutorials on YouTube.
Stay alert, exercise caution, and be courteous. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
