Traffic Stoppages Scheduled on Layton Road, Tunnel Road and the Great Allegheny Passage Trail in Fayette County

Due to the Layton Bridge Replacement Project.

Uniontown, PA—Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing traffic stoppages up to 15 minutes are scheduled to occur, as needed, on Route 4038 (Layton Road), Tunnel Road and the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail in Perry Township, Fayette County, beginning Monday, July 20.

Traffic stoppages are expected to continue through October to allow crews from Joseph B. Fay Co. to perform blasting operations. Flaggers will be stationed on both sides of the GAP Trail, Layton Road, and Tunnel Road to stop travel during each blast. Following each blast, crews will inspect the area to ensure no debris remain before allowing travel to continue.

All work depends on weather and operations.

Drivers should exercise caution while traveling through work zones and be alert for workers. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The project involves replacing the 17-span Layton Bridge over the Youghiogheny River and includes additional bridge, roadway, and safety improvements along Layton Road (Route 4038) between Route 51 and the town of Layton.
