Shapiro Administration Highlights Route 40 Paving Project, One of 79 “Rapid Deployment Projects” Announced by Governor Shapiro, and a Multimodal Grant Awarded to Null Land, Inc. in Fayette County

The Rapid Deployment Project will provide 6 additional miles of paving along Route 40.

A $910,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant will support a road improvement project in North Union Township.

Under the Shapiro Administration, more than 22,600 miles have been improved statewide, and work has advanced on over 2,000 state and local bridges.

Farmington, PA – Today, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Mike Carroll was joined by regional PennDOT and local officials today to highlight a paving project on Route 40 in Wharton Township, Fayette County. The project is one of the 79 ‘Rapid Deployment Projects’ Governor Josh Shapiro announced last month. This project started on August 24 and will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of nearly 10 miles of Route 40. Officials also highlighted a $910,000 investment through the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) awarded to Null Land, Inc. in North Union Township, Fayette County.

“The Shapiro Administration is showing up for every county with these accelerated projects, which will also allow PennDOT maintenance crews and funds to complete other improvements and preservation throughout the Commonwealth,” Carroll said. “Additionally, this multimodal grant is one of the most recent examples of years of investments that help communities’ mobility and their economies.”

The Route 40 paving project is part of the first $250 million in funding secured by the Governor in the 2026-27 budget to quickly repair state-owned roads. Over the next 18 months, the Shapiro Administration will drive out a total of $775 million from the Motor License Fund for road work in every county. Before the budget agreement, this section of Route 40 would have received a little over 3 miles of paving.

PennDOT District 12’s four-county region, which includes Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland counties, will receive $60.7 million over the 18-month period through the Rapid Deployment Project funds.

Null Land Inc. received one of 50 grants that Governor Josh Shapiro announced as the latest round of MTF grant awards, investing nearly $54 million in infrastructure projects across Pennsylvania. Since taking office, Governor Shapiro and his administration have invested over $197 million through the MTF to support transportation projects that improve safety, connect communities, and grow local economies across Pennsylvania.

The Null Land Inc. grant will allow construction of a road improvement project.

“Both of these investments are important to addressing transportation needs in our region,” said PennDOT District 12 Executive Rachel Duda. “These investments help us improve safety, preserve our infrastructure and support continued economic growth.”
