Uniontown, PA—Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that the Route 66 Pavement Preservation Project remains active and will continue to move forward as planned as the superload travels through Westmoreland County.
PennDOT District 12, Plum Contracting, Inc., and the superload hauler are coordinating closely as the superload travels through the Route 66 project area.
The routes used for the superload movements are bonded, providing protection for the road should any damage occur as a result of the movement.
Paving repairs and improvements to Route 66 will take place through fall and continue into next construction season. Additional superload movements are anticipated during the winter months, when construction activity is limited.
Current traffic impacts will remain in place through October:
- Drivers traveling northbound Route 66 will cross over to southbound Route 66 at the Washington Township Fire Department and transition back to the normal traffic pattern at the Beaver Run Road/North Washington Road intersection.
- Current daily single-lane restrictions controlled by flaggers will continue on Route 66 between Manor Road and the Route 356 split intersection from 6:30 AM until 5:30 PM.

Plum Contracting, Inc. will complete improvements along the 10.5-mile corridor that include: milling and paving, full-depth pavement and base repairs, tree trimming, new pavement markings and signage, guiderail updates, drainage improvements, new traffic signals at three intersections (two intersections on Route 66 in Delmont and another signal at the intersection of Route 66 and Route 356) Route 66 and Route 356 will be reconstructed and widen to add a turn lane to accommodate a new traffic signal. New sidewalks, ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities, lighting, and landscaping near Manor Road and East Pittsburgh Street. An infrastructure investment of $12.9 million.
