PennDOT’s Westmoreland County Maintenance Update

Week of August 31, 2026  

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Westmoreland County Maintenance Manager Dave Forkey has announced the following tentative work plan for the week of Aug 31. All maintenance activities are conducted depending on weather and operations.

Drivers can anticipate detours, flaggers, moving operations, and/or single-lane restrictions. Please drive cautiously through all work areas and be alert for signed work zones requiring headlights. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Base repair:

  • Route 136 (Main st) in West Newton Borough

Crack sealing:

  • Route 981 in Derry Township
  • Route 982 in Unity and Derry townships

Inlet adjustment:

  • Route 819 (Diamond ST) Mt Pleasant Twp.

Pipe repair/replacement:

  • Route 982 in Derry Township

Patching:

  • Various routes in Upper Burrell and Washington Township
  • Various routes in Westmoreland County
  • Route 30 in North Huntingdon Township

Parallel ditching:

  • Route 819 (Diamond Street) in Hempfield Township
  • Route 3089 (Buttermore Ave) in East Huntingdon Township
  • Route 3021 (Salem Church Road) in Rostraver Township

Shoulder stabilization:

  • Route 3037 (Waltz Mill Road) in Sewickley Township
  • Route 8005 (Technology Drive Ramp) in Hempfield Township

Road repair:

  • Route 4002 (North Greengate Road) in Hempfield Township

Crews will pick litter, replace downed signs, and update existing signs, as well as address work orders on various state routes throughout the county. 

PennDOT has a toll-free number—1-800-FIX-ROAD (1-800-349-7623)—for residents to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.

Travelers can check conditions on major roads by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts
